What is a five-element mix?
Everyone carries all five elements, in a different mix. Your mix is how Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water are spread across the 8 characters of your birth moment.
Nobody is perfectly even. Most charts are strong in 2 or 3 elements and lighter in the rest. That unevenness is what makes your chart yours. Strong elements describe natural strengths; light ones point to where growth takes a little more effort. Your result sums it up in one line, like “Mostly Water, with a spine of Metal”.
For the curious: hidden stems
Each animal sign (Earthly Branch, 地支) holds 1 to 3 elements inside it, called hidden stems (藏干). We count them too, weighted the classical way, so your mix is more than a tally of the 8 visible characters.
The five elements at a glance
- Wood
- Wood
Growth, plans, kindness. Wood people start things: they see what could be and reach for it.
- Fire
- Fire
Warmth, expression, charm. Fire people light up a room: they inspire, perform and lead with heart.
- Earth
- Earth
Steadiness, care, patience. Earth people are the calm centre: they build foundations and hold things together.
- Metal
- Metal
Precision, fairness, standards. Metal people value quality over quantity and cut what is not needed.
- Water
- Water
Depth, curiosity, intuition. Water people find a way through, where others only see walls.
