What Elemental Fate is
Elemental Fate is a free BaZi calculator and a guide to Chinese birth charts. BaZi (八字, “eight characters”) writes the year, month, day and hour you were born as 8 old Chinese characters. It has been read in China for more than 1,000 years.
From those 8 characters we show your core element (for example “Yin Water, the rain”), how much of each of the five elements you carry, the strongest force in your chart, and one of 80 guardian spirits.
A Chinese zodiac sign uses only your birth year. BaZi reads the exact year, month, day and hour. You need no background in Chinese thought to use it.
Why we made it
Knowing yourself a little better is a good place to start. BaZi is one of the oldest personality maps still in use, yet most of what is written about it in English is full of untranslated terms. We want it to be clear, carefully made and useful for anyone curious about how the five elements describe temperament, work and relationships.
What it is and isn't
| It is | It isn't |
|---|---|
| A tool for self-reflection and personality insight | Medical, financial or legal advice |
| Built on the classical BaZi rules | A prediction engine or fortune-telling service |
| A library for learning about Chinese birth charts | A substitute for professional counselling |
| Free to use, no account needed for the chart | A claim of scientific proof beyond its tradition |
The 80 guardians
Each guardian joins two things: your core element (one of 10) and the strongest force in your chart, which the classical rules read from your birth month. 10 core elements times 8 forces gives 80. Yang Fire, the sun, with the Creator as its strongest force is The Fire Creator: warmth spent on making things.
The names are ours. The pairing underneath them is the classical one, written in plain English. Meet all 80 guardians.

How it works underneath
The calculation runs on our own server with fixed calendar rules: the sky signs and animal signs, months that begin with the sun's seasons, and the elements hiding inside each animal sign. No outside service and no AI is used to cast a chart. Our methodology lists every rule and every simplification.
